LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Officials from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are recommending lengthening the number of days for bobcat hunting and trapping.

Hunting groups are lobbying for more opportunities while critics contend there is no reason for the increases.

Bobcats are the most abundant in Michigan. They eat rabbits and rodents and tend to maintain multiple dens.

The plan calls for expanding trapping season from 11 days to 20 days in Lower Michigan, while increasing bobcat hunting days by nine in areas with the shortest seasons.

The state’s Natural Resources Commission will meet on February 10th in Lansing to consider the changes.

Currently bobcat hunting and trapping is banned in Indiana and Ohio, with Illinois considering doing the same.
