LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – As expected, Governor  Gretchen Whitmer vetoed a Republican-proposed bill to suspend Michigan’s gas tax.

Now, lawmakers are searching for another option.

Instead of cutting the state’s 27-cent gas tax, Whitmer favors a plan that would suspend the 6-percent sales tax on gas.

Opponents of that plan say suspending the sales tax wouldn’t save Michiganders as much as the flat cut, and it raises concerns that the state’s School Aid Fund would be affected.
