STURGIS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Production of baby formula has resumed at the Abbott Nutrition factory in Sturgis after severe thunderstorms and flooding forced it to stop operations in June just days after restarting production.
Abbott recalled several leading brands of formula in February, including Similac. That lead to an already stressed baby formula market strained by supply chain disruptions.
A company spokesperson said production of EleCare, a specialty formula for infants with severe food allergies and digestive problems, has been restored at Sturgis following a July 1 reboot.
Abbott is one of just four companies that produce about 90% of U.S. formula.
