BOYNE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Residents in Charlevoix County are being asked to take precautions after officials say a black bear is roaming the area at night.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says it’s received multiple reports of a black bear attacking chickens in Boyne City at night.

An attempt to capture the bear was unsuccessful.

Officials said the bear tries to avoid human contact but is still considered a threat.

The DNR recommends nearby residents remove food sources and place electric fences around chicken coops.
