KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Package thefts are on the rise across West Michigan, and police are encouraging Kalamazoo residents to take steps to protect their packages from porch pirates.

Police said theft of delivered packages is up 30-percent over the last year. They are uncertain as to why it’s happening but they advise adding preventative measures to keep packages from being swiped.

Officials recommend having a well lit porch and home, consider requiring a signature for delivery, or have packages delivered to a neighbor or to your workplace.
