LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Law enforcement patrols are expected to increase this holiday season so they can watch the roadways for suspected drunk drivers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is working alongside law enforcement to decrease impaired driving.

From Dec. 16 to Jan. 1, police officers will be participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement period.

In 2021, nearly 47 percent of fatalities on Michigan roadways involved alcohol and/or drugs, according to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.
