CHARLEVOIX, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – More than $6.6 million in federal funding will help purchase a new passenger ferry for trips between Charlevoix and Beaver Island.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced the grant funding.

There are currently two ferries serving the island, and one of them is more than 60-years-old. It will be replaced by a more efficient and environmentally-friendly boat.
