WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Officials in Oakland County say they have finally closed a murder case that dated back to 2009 in Waterford Township.
Ruben Guitierrez Jr. was found by his father in his room not breathing and later pronounced dead. Police suspected Edward Byrnes and Maurice Hobson at the time, but didn’t have enough evidence to charge them.

New information came to light in 2019 and investigators were able to charge the pair in 2020.
Hobson pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2022 and will be arraigned later this month.
Byrnes pleaded to second-degree murder and a weapons charge last week and will be sentenced August 1st.
