SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie has welcomed a new commander.

Captain James Bendle arrived from his post in Baltimore, Maryland to take over as the new head Commander. He is responsible for all coast guard activity in Lake Superior, northern Lake Michigan, and all of Lake Huron.

He will lead a dedicated workforce of 248 active duty, 70 reserve, and 26 civilian personnel.

Captain Bendle is relieving outgoing Captain Anthony James who served as commander at Sector Sault since July 2020.
