LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – In August 2023, the Gateway Pundit (GP), released a bombshell article about possible voter fraud in Michigan concerning voter registration applications. Although the website isn’t always deemed a credible source, even in conservative circles, they had plenty of “evidence” to back up their claims with documents obtained in a FOIA including police reports.
At the very least, GP had exposed an investigation that was not being reported on by most of the media and certainly wasn’t announced in any sort of splashy press release from the Attorney General’s office under Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel.

At the heart of the story is a city clerk in Muskegon who in October of 2020 suspected fraudulent voter registration forms and sent them to the Muskegon Police Department. The City Clerk, Ann Meisch, told the police that in her opinion, a quantity of the voter registration forms were highly suspicious and possibly fraudulent. Her opinion was based on the fact that numerous forms appeared to have been completed by the same writer and upon initial examination addresses on multiple forms were invalid or non-existent. Additionally, she said phone numbers were erroneous and signatures didn’t appear to match signatures on file with the Dept. of Secretary of State.
Detectives conducted an interview with one of the suspects that Meisch had received multiple applications from and they got a search warrant to investigate further. The warrant resulted in finding, among other things, pre-paid cards from different companies, burner phones, semi-automatic rifles and pistols with silencers.
The Muskegon police, while investigating, only looked at 37 voter registration applications but found that 33 of them (89.1%) either had false names and/or fake addresses, incorrect information, was not filled out by the actual applicant or had addresses that were no longer the voters’ residence.
More fraudulent applications were found by Just the News who recently reported that they received a total of 254 voter registration forms for the 2020 general election that were part of the investigation that appear to be fraudulent.
Because of the findings from the initial investigation by the Muskegon police, Michigan GOP leaders have pointed to a rigged election and a double standard of prosecuting Donald Trump and his supporters while ignoring the possible voter fraud in the city Muskegon – and possibly the rest of the state or even nationally – due to the fact that the company GBI Strategies was involved with these voter registration applications. GBI Strategies, who are connected to the Biden campaign and various Democrat campaign committees (and have received millions from them) is the organization who were reportedly behind submitting 8K to 10K voter registration forms to the Muskegon clerk ahead of the 2020 general election.
Because GBI Strategies is a national organization, concerns about widespread voter fraud across the country have surfaced. However, with no new information or reports or even a comment from the FBI or anyone else about the status of the investigation, one has to wonder if we’ll ever hear anything more about it. It seems, after three years of investigating, they’d have more than enough information to either move ahead with charges or close the investigation.
The Michigan Attorney General’s office did confirm that there was a state investigation into the fraudulent voter registrations, an investigation that was being done between the Muskegon police, the Michigan State Police and the AG’s office. What’s odd is that AG Nessel remained silent through the whole thing until her office was contacted about it.

According to Bridge Michigan, the investigation was referred to the FBI where it still sits today. Just the News said that after the FBI took over the case from the Muskegon and Michigan State Police, the contacts between the agencies and the FBI continued into 2022 but there is no evidence of what happened after that. When Just the News contacted the FBI two months ago, their press office said “standard practice (is) to neither confirm nor deny the existence of an investigation.”
Because the investigation is taking so long and there don’t appear to be any charges on the horizon, it’s kind of hard to dispute claims of a double standard after one sees the dedication that the state of Michigan has had in their speed to prosecute what they call “fake electors” for former President Donald Trump (many of whom are senior citizens) and the election charges filed against former Michigan Attorney General candidate, Republican Matt DePerno.
The Michigan AG office is reported as saying that they referred the voter registration application matter to the FBI because of its national jurisdiction. But how is this investigation different than the state’s investigation into the fake electors or DePerno? It’s all the same election – by voters in the state of Michigan for state and national candidates.
The state doesn’t seem to think that the Muskegon issue is a big deal because there was no harm done. According to Danny Wimmer, press secretary for the State Attorney General, they have told the media that the fraudulent applications didn’t get incorporated into the state’s qualified voter file (QVF) and it had no effect on any ballots that were requested or processed. He said in a statement, ”The city clerk in Muskegon detected the fraudulent material provided and alerted the proper authorities. A thorough investigation was conducted by multiple agencies within the state and no successful fraud was perpetrated upon the state’s election process or qualified voter file.”
The Michigan State Police have pretty much said the same thing in their statement: “Despite claims to the contrary, this investigation is in no way related to ballots or ballot drop boxes. None of the alleged fraudulent voter registrations resulted in voters receiving absentee ballot applications or ballots, any resulting registrations have been voided, and there is no expected impact on any election.”
Wimmer appears to be blaming the fraud on a few individuals and not the company of GBI as a whole. In the rest of his statement, Wimmer said, “Fraud was determined to have occurred at the lowest levels of the company. The leading internal indication was that fraud was being perpetrated against GBI Strategies by its employees to fabricate work product without conducting the work expected of them and not in explicit pursuit of defrauding the election infrastructure of the state.”
But how do we know that is true without a full and transparent investigation – and one that’s completed before the next election cycle.
And are Michigan voters supposed to take comfort in the fact that none of the fraudulent applications resulted in fraudulent ballots and fraudulent votes? Or at least they haven’t as far as we know since the 3-year investigation is still on-going.
If the accusations of fraudulent voter registration applications are proven to be true, what happened was a crime. Just because a bank robber doesn’t walk away with any money from the robbery, that doesn’t mean that person shouldn’t be charged with a crime.
And how many other clerks in Michigan were seeing similar discrepancies in their voter registration applications? GP says that multiple county clerks in Michigan reported similar issues according to a whistleblower’s screenshots of posts from a Facebook page. On the page, clerks reported receiving “care packages” of voter registration applications from GBI Strategies and the group “Empower Michigan,” which is reported by GP as a Democratic group who works alongside GBI. “Why are we getting all of these voter registrations from Auburn Hills? We received two stacks today,” said one Facebook user. Other users said applicants weren’t able to spell their own name correctly and that the packages came with the same return address and writing.
Whether or not voter fraud is happening should not be investigated or prosecuted depending on what political party it benefits – or entraps. All of it should be investigated expeditiously and with transparency. Problems should be fixed.
If voter fraud isn’t investigated vigorously in all occurrences, no matter what political party is involved, then the security and integrity of our elections is non-existent and the outcomes will always be questioned.
