LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night, but here’s another reminder to add to your checklist.

Fire departments across the state along with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is reminding you to change the batteries in your smoke detectors as well. In addition, make sure you have installed carbon monoxide detectors in your home.

Carbon monoxide is known as the “silent killer” since it is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas.

Officials say one detector should be on every level of your house.

Each year, approximately 100,000 people nationally arrive in the emergency room to be treated for carbon monoxide exposure.
