KEWEENAW COUNTY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Hockey is a way of life in Michigan, and one Upper Peninsula community is asking for help to save its outdoor ice rink.

Originally built in 1984, the Ahmeek Ice Rink in Keweenaw County is in dire need of new boards.

According to staff, the boards are rotting from the ground up. In addition, crews are having a difficult time making sure they stay sturdy.

Workers say they feel they can get one more winter out of the boards, but the boards must be replaced after that. If the boards are not replaced, the rink may need to close.

Supporters of the rink are asking for the community’s help in raising $90,000. For more information click here.
