According to Sheriff Swanson, the body had “significant” trauma, and the clothes matched the last thing that McWhirter was wearing on Oct. 14 when she went missing.
Sheriff Swanson says that DNA testing and dental records will be done to confirm the body is McWhiter’s, which could take days to complete.
McWhiter and her ex-husband, Steven Higgins, went missing on Oct. 14. Higgins was found on the morning of Oct. 18 by police. Higgins shot himself in front of police and later died.
