DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Congratulations are in order at The Detroit Zoo! Officials said its 26-year-old gorilla, Bandia, is the mother of an infant born late last week.
This is the first birth of a gorilla at the zoo in its 96-year-history. Zoo officials say the family of primates, including the 36-year-old silverback gorilla father, are doing fine.
The baby gorilla is reportedly strong and is vocalizing with its mother. The infant joins his parents and two other gorillas and 12 chimpanzees in the zoo’s four-acre habitat.
