GLEN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Sugar Loaf is a well-known northern Michigan’s landmark. Now, a $1.6 million fundraising effort from the Leelanau Conservancy is all that’s left before it becomes a public recreation area.
The current owner of the 285 acre site, who wants to remain anonymous, has pledged to donate the property once the fundraising goal is met. Currently, the $8 million project has already raised $6.4 million.

Plans for the site include:
- A network hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails
- A summit pavilion
- An accessible loop trail
- A sledding hill, nature play area and gathering space
A community information session will be held on July 30 at 6 p.m. at Solon Township Hall, and Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at Glen Arbor Township Hall.
