Detroit mayoral and city council races.

The Detroit City Clerk’s office announced that more than 40,000 absentee ballots have already been submitted. In addition, more than 900 Detroiters voted early and in person.

Tuesday’s election will narrow the fields of candidates in races for mayor and city council. The top two performers in each race will move on to the Nov. 4 general election.

Mayor Mike Duggan, a former Democrat, is running for governor of Michigan as an independent. He’s served in the city’s top spot for 12 years.

Other ballot considerations.

Communities throughout Michigan will vote on building and bond proposals, sinking funds for schools, and local government representation.

The Nov. 4 election will finalize candidates and issues for this election cycle, with the 2026 midterm frenzy to kick off afterwards.
