ST. IGNACE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A proposed stretch of highway could go from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula all the way down south if one group gets its way.
A group called the I-73 Corridor Association is pushing for the development of an highway that would run from the U.P. to South Carolina. The website says the interstate would “serve as a safe alternative to other highways, and provide coastal regions with a hurricane evacuation route.”

While the Michigan Dept. of Transportation is focusing on maintaining the state’s current infrastructure with I-73 not being part of any future planning, the Ohio Dept. of Transportation is spending $1.5 million on a study for their state.
