GRAND BLANC, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Grand Blanc police officials said a 40-year-old man from Burton is the suspect they believe shot 10 people inside a Genesee County church on Sunday morning.

During a press conference on Sunday afternoon, police officials said the shooter who entered the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is dead, and one of the ten victims died. The nine others are in critical or stable condition at local hospitals.

According to police, the suspect drove his vehicle through the front door of the church, got out, and fired several rounds with an “assault rifle” at people inside the church. Police said there was an active church service going on at the time with hundreds inside.

Law enforcement responded and took down the shooter.

In addition, police believe the suspect set a fire deliberately and they believe more victims will be found once that scene is cleared.

Police plan to execute a search warrant on the subject’s house and review cell phone records.

Grand Blanc police plan to give another update at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
