FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – In more traditional times, people who wanted to get married had to get approval of the parents.
For two Farmington Hills police officers that want to tie the knot, they need to get approval of the city council if they want to keep their jobs.

The City of Farmington Hills charter states that if the status of a relationship between any two employees changes due to marriage, the City Council must review the employment status of the affected employees. If there is a perceived conflict of interest due to the marriage, the city reserves the right to fire an employee.
The city council will approve the marriage with stipulations. The married officers can not work “selected, regularly scheduled shifts together.” The married officers can not be selected or assigned to specific-special assignments together.
Neither of the officers can be in direct supervision of each other.
The two police officers had to sign a “Marriage Acknowledgment and Policy Compliance Form.”
The form states, “We understand that our marriage establishes a relationship subject to City Council review.”
