SAGINAW, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The search for the next president of Delta College in University Center is underway.
Dr. Michael Gavin is stepping down from Delta after four years at the helm of the Great Lakes Bay region school. He founded a grassroots group called “Education for All” which he said fights legislative attacks on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). In November, Dr. Gavin spoke to The Midland Daily News regarding his departure.

“I have an academic background in the area of race and how politics can be either really great in terms of delivering on the democratic promises or not,” Dr. Gavin said in the interview. “It embodies critical race theory, which is actually also misunderstood. As I looked at the legislation that was coming out, it didn’t really require institutions to change anything. The legislation was to make you fearful and to make you make changes.”
Dr. Gavin also explained it is difficult to leave Delta, but said he must be a part of the DEI cause.
Meanwhile, Delta is accepting applications and nominations for the presidential position. The target application deadline is Feb. 9, 2026. More information can be found here.
