JACKSON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The City of Jackson is turning to neighbors’ front doors in its latest bid to fight crime, launching a new public safety program built around Ring doorbell cameras.

The “Eyes on the Block” program will provide up to 100 cameras and a one-year subscription service to homeowners and small businesses.

Officials say criminal activity captured on the cameras could be shared with law enforcement to help solve crimes. Ring allows participants to upload videos anonymously to law enforcement. However, Jackson police officials will not monitor the cameras and will not have automatic access to any footage.

City leaders want input from the community. Meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Martin Luther King Center and Thursday, Feb. 19, at Boos Recreation Center. Both meetings will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. More information available on the city’s website.
