LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – There are more law enforcement officers patrolling Michigan communities.
The 117th Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College graduated 22 recruits from its 17-week program this week.

The graduation ceremony comes just in time as law enforcement agencies statewide are struggling to recruit personnel.
Data from the University of Michigan shows that from 2015 to 2024, the percentage of local governments needing to fill spots rose from 22% to 72%.
βItβs something agencies are constantly working on, not only to bring in good officers, but to hold onto them for a 25- 30 year career,β said Chief Steve Gonzalez with the Capital Region Airport Authority.
The Mid-Michigan Police Academy is offered twice a year in the fall and spring. Students undergo more than 700 hours of training, surpassing the state requirement of around 600.
