ALBION, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Officials arrested an off-duty police officer on Saturday for operating while intoxicated, according to the Albion Department of Public Safety (ADPS).

It happened in the early morning hours of Saturday. Officers pulled over a vehicle near N. Superior and E. Pine Streets in Albion. Officials reported an ADPS officer was behind the wheel; law enforcement suspected the driver was drunk.

The ADPS called it “an unfortunate incident” in a press release, and stressed the department will always hold its officers accountable. “ADPS remains dedicated to complete transparency and to the community we serve,” the statement said.

The off-duty officer was also arrested for possession of a firearm while under the influence, and has been placed on administrative leave. Albion officers turned the investigation over to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
