BAY CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Two 12-year-olds face 16 criminal charges in juvenile court in connection with an Oct. 9 boat fire at Liberty Harbor Marina in Bay City that destroyed a 36-foot vessel and damaged several others.

Witnesses reportedly saw two people running from the area of the burning boat, and video captured some of the events. Police had no solid leads until after the holidays, when another law enforcement agency contacted Bay City Public Safety with a tip that a child said their sibling had set a boat on fire.

The two preteens face charges of home invasion, third-degree arson, and larceny. One has already been arraigned, but police say the other has moved out of the jurisdiction, and authorities are continuing to search for him.

Former Bay City Manager Dana Muscott told police the total cost of repairs and cleanup for the city exceeded $85,000 before insurance reimbursement.

The owner of the destroyed boat told the media that his insurance company made him whole and that he has since purchased a new boat.
