LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Registration is now open for more than 50 in-person hunter safety education classes across Michigan as the Department of Natural Resources prepares for the upcoming fall hunting season.

Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1960, is required to successfully complete an approved hunter education course.

The classes, offered Aug. 10-16 as part of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Hunter Safety Education Week, provide an opportunity for new hunters to earn their certification before the fall hunting seasons begin.

Hunter safety education classes are typically offered in the spring ahead of turkey season and again in the fall before firearm deer season. However, Hunter Safety Education Week serves as a reminder that it’s never too early to complete the required certification.

“Just as we are starting to prepare for the new school year and fall extracurricular activities, now is also a great time to start thinking about and preparing for the fall hunting season,” said Lt. Tom Wanless, DNR recreational safety, education and enforcement supervisor.
