CADILLAC, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Iargo Springs recreation site will close Monday, Sept. 28, for a renovation project expected to last about a year.

The U.S. Forest Service closure order runs through Sept. 28, 2027, unless it is lifted earlier. The parking area, overlook, stairs, boardwalks and access to the springs will be closed during construction. Visitors also will be unable to reach the Highbanks Trail from Iargo Springs.

The project will replace aging stairs and improve boardwalks, observation platforms, restrooms and interpretive signs at the site along the Au Sable River. It is part of the Forest Service’s effort to address deferred maintenance at recreation sites.

The Forest Service purchased Iargo Springs from Consumers Energy in 1986 as part of a larger 6,600-acre parcel.
