FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — A pilot had a close call Saturday afternoon when a mechanical failure forced a single-engine plane to make an emergency landing on the shoulder of I-69.

Flint Township police say the pilot was descending toward Bishop International Airport when the engine failed. The pilot, who was alone aboard the plane, landed on the highway shoulder near Bristol Road and I-75.

Police say no vehicles were damaged and no injuries were reported. The landing forced the closure of all westbound I-69 lanes at Bristol Road.

Flint Township police investigators are working with the Federal Aviation Administration and officials at Bishop International Airport to determine the cause of the engine failure.
