EMPIRE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The black bear with a sweet tooth who stole and ate a 50-pound bag of sugar from an The Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate shop in Empire last week has been relocated about an hour away.

The bear was live trapped by the DNR on property just outside Empire, and according to the property owner, the bear also has a taste for chickens. Joshua Fast said the bear had eaten 16 of his chickens in the past couple of weeks after getting into his chicken coop.

The DNR said the bear will be set free in a rural area about 60 miles from Empire. The Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate shop owner, Jody Hayden, said she was relieved the bear was unharmed.
