GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Former Congressman Peter Meijer announced he is dropping out of race for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat.
The Grand Rapids native launched his bid for the Republican primary last November in hopes of replacing retiring and long-serving Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow.

Meijer served as the representative for Michigan’s third congressional district from 2021 to 2023.
“After prayerful consideration, I withdrew my name from the primary ballot,” Meijer said in a statement. “Without a strong pathway to victory, continuing this campaign only increases the likelihood of a divisive primary that would distract from the essential goal – conservative victories in November.”
Justin Amash, Sherry O’Donnell, Sandy Pensler and Mike Rogers are still running for the Republican primary U.S. Senate in Michigan.
