DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Officials with Ascension Hospitals say a cyber attack hit their systems earlier this week.

The company operates 140 health facilities and senior living centers in 19 states.

The company said in a statement they immediately took action after detecting the suspicious activity, but are not certain how much information was compromised. Ascension has hired a third party expert to help in the investigation.

Some of the health care systems have been interrupted as officials work to secure their information and programs. The extent of the breach on patient information is not yet known.
